Albrecht, Charles C. (b. 28 JAN 1891, d. 14 MAY 1963)
Note: First Rural Route in Texas Was Established in La Grange in 1898

(Editors note: The below article on the establishment of the first rural route in Texas in La Grange was written for the Journal in 1941. The facts were gathered from Rural Route Carrier Chas. C, Albrecht of La Grange and John L. Giese, carrier at West Point.)

When the R. F. D. bill passed in Congress, in February 1898, H. C. Heilig, postmaster, called on Aug. F. Loessin to assist in mapping out the first rural route in Fayette county, and for the State of Texas. Mr. Loessin knew the country well and how many would be served. A sketch of the route was made. It exceeded not 30 miles, and Henry Cremer, living near La Grange, was given the authority to circulate the petition, securing the necessary amount of signatures. The petition was presented to the department at Washington and was granted. It became effective Aug. 1, 1899. Hy. Cremer was appointed carrier and Chas. Lampe succeeded him two years later. Mr. Lampe remained as carrier until 1926; he retired in that year due to physical disability. Several years ago the Rural Letter Carriers Association of La Grange was stirred into action when the Dallas News carried an article in which under a Hillsboro date line, that Hillsboro was to celebrate the establishing of the first Rural Route in Texas. It remained for the carriers to dispel what belief be accredited to the statement. In consequence, the powers at Washington were consulted by letter. And the reply came that the first Rural Route was established at La Grange, and the date as above given was mentioned. The Rural Letter Carriers Association, after the new Federal building had been completed, busied themselves with the matter of having a marker placed near the postoffice building, which marker would bear the lettering that informed the public that the first Rural Route in Texas was established at La Grange. Unable to have the marker placed on the government property, and the government property so located as to leave 20 feet approach remaining the citys property, consent was given by the City Council, and the marker was properly dedicated June 11, 1938. Albrecht, Charles (b. 30 JUN 1858, d. 17 JUL 1932)
Note: Chas. Albrecht, Sr.

Following an illness of four days, Chas. Albrecht, Sr., of La Grange, died at the family home, Sunday, July 17, aged 79 years and 17 days. He is survived by his widow, and the following children: Fritz, Albert, Louis and Chas. Albrecht of La Grange, and Mrs. Herman Eck of Schulenburg. The funeral was held Monday afternoon, with interment at the new cemetery in La Grange, Rev. Chas. A. Nash, pastor of the First Presbyterian church of La Grange, officiating. Mr. Albrecht may be rightfully mentioned as one of our plain, honest and upright citizens, one in whom everybody found a real friend. He was born in Fayette county, and followed the avocation of a farmer all the years that he lived. When a young man he was united in marriage with Miss Annie Helmcamp, of near La Grange. To this union there was born six children, one dying in early infancy. The living children are mentioned in the preceding paragraph. The pleasure a parent experiences in rearing an interesting family was his; in his declining years he learned with pleasure of the favorable mention given to his grandchildren in their studies and enjoying the esteem and good will of all who knew him, he felt compensated. May his sleep be peaceful; he had earned it, and has left a legacy of honorable conduct through his life, to his children. [The La Grange Journal, Thursday, July 21, 1932]

Albrecht, William Max (b. 01 AUG 1854, d. 13 JUN 1921)

Max Albrecht Dead

Death claimed another of Fayette county's native-born citizens Monday evening when Max Albrecht, residing in the Williams Creek farming section, passed to his reward. Mr. Albrecht had been ill for the past two years, suffering from an incurable affliction; while his death was not unexpected, it nevertheless created many expressions of genuine regret among his many friends over the county. Mrs. Albrecht, his wedded companion, died January 12 of the present year. Max Albrecht was born at Bluff, August 1, 1854, and grew to manhood on the farm of his parents, early settlers of the section. He was united in marriage with Miss Nancy Heinsohn, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Heinsohn and wife, and to them six children, three sons and three daughters were born, three of whom preceded the parents in death. The children now surviving are: Gus. W. Albrecht of near Muldoon, Mrs. Nancy, wife of R. D. Eckles, Bluff and Mrs. Louis Oeding of Freyburg. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at two o'clock, from the late home near Williams creek, where the family had resided for many years, and interment was made at the Williams creek cemetery, Rev. K. Kern officiating. To the mourning relatives we offer our sincerest sympathy.
