Anastasia �Stazie� Rochen, age 102, of Wharton, died Saturday, Dec. 11, 2004, in a Wharton hospital following a brief illness. She was born on April 14, 1902, in Praha, the daughter of the late Joseph Hajek and Agnes Vanek Hajek. Mrs. Rochen was a former 30-year resident of Waller and a former 34-year resident of Katy before moving to Wharton in 1992. She was a member of St. John�s Catholic Church in Hungerford. Mrs. Rochen married Raymond Rochen Sr. on Sept. 18, 1928, in Praha and he preceded her in death on Sept. 11, 1957. She was also preceded in death by two sons, Edwin Rochen and Raymond Rochen Jr., and four sisters and four brothers. Mrs. Rochen was a homemaker all of her life and enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and cooking. She was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. A rosary was recited at 6:30 p.m. Monday evening, Dec. 13, 2004, at the chapel of Wharton Funeral Home. Funeral Mass was held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at St. John�s Catholic Church in Hungerford with Rev. Henry Rachunek officiating. Graveside services and interment were held at 12:30 p.m. today, Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at Frydek Cemetery in Frydek. Survivors include her daughters and sons-in-law, Emma Svoboda of Wharton, Ann and Ivan Mazoch Jr. of Houston and Albina and Wilbert Hundl of Wharton; brothers, Emil Hajek of Corpus Christi and Ludwig Hajek of Victoria; grandchildren and spouses, Theresa and Gerard Krenek, Felicia and Scott Vickroy, Veronica and Jeffrey Stapper, Melinda and John Gary, Wilbert and Paula Hundl Jr., Regina and Mark Merta, Donna and Arthur Zahn Jr., Paul and Joanna Hundl, Julius and Kelly Hundl, Steve Rochen, Sharlene Rochen, Ivan and Laurie Mazoch III, Alicia Mazoch and Monica Mazoch; 19 great-grandchildren also survive along with numerous nieces and nephews. Pallbearers were Wilbert Hundl Jr., Paul Hundl, Julius Hundl, Ivan Mozoch III, Seth Traugh and Jake Stapper. In lieu of usual remembrances the family requests memorials to St. John's Catholic Church, P.O. Box 121, Hungerford, TX 77448. Funeral services for Irma Huebner, 79, of Palacios will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Palacios Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. Doug Blanton officiating. Burial will be in Cedarvale Cemetery, Bay City. Mrs. Huebner was born April 15, 1909, in Galveston to Fred and Katie Golmer Hander and died 10:40 p.m. Aug. 7, 1988, at Wagner General Hospital, Palacios. A former resident of Buffalo, Texas, she lived in Palacios for the last six years where she was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include her husband, Robert Huebner of Palacios; a son, Don Huebner of Washington, D.C.; a sister, May Bourgeois of Houston; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Note: After Much Suffering
Mrs. Justina Letzerich, wife of Wm. Letzerich, died at the family home in this city, Tuesday afternoon, following an illness that had extended over a period of months. During her long illness Mrs. Letzerich was a patient sufferer, and accepted the inevitable in calmness and contentment. The funeral will be held from the family residence, Thursday morning, the body is to be taken to the Sacred Heart Catholic church, where Rev. S. A. Zientek will officiate, after which interment will be held at the new cemetery.
Mrs. Letzerich was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Hans, early setlers of La Grange. Beside her husband, she leaves five children, three daughters and two sons, one son preceded her in death about twenty years ago. The living children are: Mrs. Sybilla, wife of Gerhard Balzer of Robstown; Mrs. Janie, wife of H. Worthington of Corpus Christi; Dennis, of Jacksonville; Mrs. Julia, wife of Louis Richers of Bay City, and Emil, at the family home in La Grange. She is also survived by 17 grandchildren, and two brothers, Emil Hans of Los Angeles, California, and Max Hans of Dallas. [La Grange Journal, Thursday, April 28, 1932]
