Note: Marshal Appointed
The city council met in special session Monday evening for the purpose of confirming the appointment of Wm. Loessin as city marshal of La Grange, by Mayor Rosenberg. The unanimous vote to the council supported the mayor in his act. The office of city marshal had become vacant as a result of Marshal Loessin accepting the position of tax assessor and collector for the La Grange Independent School District, which position he resigned when the opinion of the legal advisor of the city was received by the mayor. Mr. Loessin has provided a new bond and will take the oath of office. [The La Grange Journal, Thursday, September 8, 1921]
City Marshal Wm. Loessin is at Galveston in attendance upon the twenty-fifth annual convention of the chiefs of police and city marshals. [The La Grange Journal, Thursday, July 12, 1923]
Wm. Loessin and family and scores of others autoed over to Austin last Thursday to attend the great game of football between Texas and A. & M. The town here looked as though it had bee depopulated, in fact closely resembled a deserted village on Sunday. [La Grange Journal, Thursday, December 4, 1924]
Sheriff Loessin and Deputy and Friends in Wreck
Saturday night, December 4, will be remembered by Sheriff Wm. Loessin, his deputy, F. J. Lidiak, R. J. Peter and John R. Holman; these four being enroute to San Antonio when an unavoidable accident occurred that deprived them of their car. According to the statement made by R. J. Peter, when about thirty miles from San Antonio, a car coming from San Antonio, with bright lights, and coming straight toward them, caused him to seek the extreme side of the road to avoid a collision. With all the care exercised, the bad luck followed. The Buick Sedan Mr. Peter was driving was forced close to the side of the road, and in order to avoid going into the drain, the driver force it upward, causing the tire to explode and this, with the force of the momentum of the car caused it to swerve to the opposite side, where it turned over, and settled on its side. Mr. Peter jumped out the open window on his side and urged the rest to follow; the sheriff made his exit but lost his overcoat and his hat, and the rear occupants, Messrs. Lidiak and Holman were hurriedly assisted out, and in time, for the car was soon enveloped in flames. The heavy shower of glass sounded like a street car wreck to the car occupants. Nothing further to do but to watch the handsome Buick Sedan burn and dodge the bullets that flew through the air, the pistol of the deputy burning with the car. Mr. Peter lost his hand-bag, Mr. Holman and Mr. Lidiak also lost their hand-bags and overcoats in the fire. Travelers, en route to San Antonio picked up the four and carried them to the Alamo City, where a new car was purchased. The Buick Sedan was insured with the Weber Insurance Agency. The four were on their way to visit Fred L. Blundell, our district attorney who is a patient in a hospital. They all admit that it was some excitement, and we are willing to agree with them, and also rejoice with them that there was no serious injury to any of them, to report. [The La Grange Journal, Thursday, December 9, 1926]
William Loessin
