Nollkamper, Anna Lucy (b. 24 OCT 1899, d. 21 JAN 1980)
Note: Swimming Party

About twenty of La Granges young people came over to the Lake for a swimming party, Sunday afternoon. A plunge in the cool, inviting water was followed by a delicious repast of sandwiches, cakes and iced tea. At the close of the meal, a lovely birthday cake, with its yellow candles was brought forth, very much surprising everyone present. Dr. F. J. Marecic, who was guilty of having on that day passed his thirty-second milestone, cut the ring while Miss Viola Sladczyk cut the heart, Miss Stella Speckles, the wishbone; Leo Frede, the button; Ted Lueders the thimble, and Cleo Franke the dime. The crowd then gathered on the banks of the Lake and the time was gaily passed away in chatting, and watching the moon rise. Ice-cold watermelons were the next on the program, and it was a late hour when the following departed for their homes: Misses Dela Schneider, Anita Houslor, Avery Nickle, Stella Speckles, Delta Mevr, Lorena Reichert, Vlasta Chupick, Viola Sladczyk, Lucy Nollkamper, Ann and Olga Nesrsta; and Mesrs. Erwin Franke, Robt. Wilcox, John Chupick, George Lathtam of Houston, Ted Lueders, Cleo Franke, George Listek, Leo Frede, Earl Greenshield of Schulenburg, M. de Barbieris and Dr. F. J. Marecic. Mr. and Mrs. Joe Roensch chaperoned the party. [The Flatonia Argus, July 20, 1922]

La Grange

Mrs. Robt. Peter entertained the Friday Bridge and the Girls Bridge club on Wednesday afternoon. Miss Viola Sladczyk for holding high score and Miss Lillian Sladczyk for success in cutting were presented attractive souvenirs. Those present were: Miss Jeanette Alexander, Miss Gertrude Alexander, Miss Annette Killough, Miss Myrta Hermes, Miss Laura Weber, Mrs. Will Morgan, Mrs. Ben C. Diebel, Mrs. J. W. Holloway, Mrs. F. Koehler, Mrs. Frank Reichert Jr., Mrs. H. R. Clark, Mrs. A. Schlafler, Mrs. Earl Greenshield, Mrs. Edwin Reiss, Mrs. Ed Mattingly, Mrs. A. V. Smith, Mrs. Clinton Stotz, Mrs. R. Wilcox, Mrs. A. R. Ehlers, Miss Olivia Schaefer, Mrs. E. A. Scheel, Miss Viola Sladczyk, Miss Lillian Sladczyk, Mrs. A. F. Weber Jr. [The Houston Post, Saturday, February 13, 1926]

Greenshield

Funeral services for Mrs. Lucy Annie Greenshield of La Grange will be held Wed. January 23, 1980 at 2 p.m. at the Swiss Alp United Evangelical Lutheran Church with Rev. Brandt Pelphrey officiating. Interment will be in the La Grange City Cemetery. Mrs. Greenshield passed away Jan. 21, 1980. A lifetime resident of La Grange, Mrs. Greenshield was born Oct. 23, 1899 to Fritz Nollkemper & Charlotte Vogt. She was married Nov. 28, 1923 to Earl Greenshield, who preceded her in death June 29, 1971. Mrs. Greenshield had been an employee at Schroeder Drug Store in La Grange, but was a housewife during the more recent years. She was a member of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church, Swiss Alp where she was an organist for 40 years. Survivors are one daughter, Mrs. Lottie L. Sneed of San Antonio; two sons, Earl Greenshield, Jr. & Gene Greenshield both of Houston, and ten grandchildren.[The La Grange Journal, Wednesday, January 23, 1980]

Note: MRS. E.R. VOGT RITES READ THURSDAY

Funeral services for Mrs. E.R. (Granny) Vogt, Schulenburg's centenarian, were held from the Schwenke-Baumgarten Funeral Chapel Thursday afternoon, August 3rd at 2:30 o'clock. Rev. F.J. Mehrtens, pastor of the St. Paul United Church of Christ, of which Mrs. Vogt was a member, conducted the services. Burial was in the Cedar Cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles Vogt, Jr., John, Robert, George and Harry Vogt and Earl Greenshield. Mrs. Vogt, whose desire in life was to live to be 100 years, celebrated that seldom-reached goal on July 9th. She was born in the Cedar community July 9, 1861 as the daughter of Henry and Catharine Nollkamper, Sr. She was united in marriage at Cedar to E. Rudolph Vogt, who for many years was county surveyor and justice of the peace of the Schulenburg precinct. The couple moved to Schulenburg in 1894 and lived here since that time. Her husband preceded her in death on February 25, 1940. Mrs. Vogt suffered a heart attack July 23 and was carried to the Youens Hospital the following Sunday, July 30. She passed away there on Tuesday, August 1, 1961 at 10:30 p.m. Although she had lost her sight and had been confined to bed for the past thirty years, she was extremely alert right up to the time of the attack. Survivors are three sons: C.A. Vogt, Sr. of Schulenburg, O.G. Vogt of Dallas and Emil Vogt of Arlington; two grandsons: C.A. Vogt, Jr. of this city and John Vogt of Dallas and two great grandsons: Cary and Roy Vogt of Schulenburg. Besides her husband she was preceded in death by four children. Nollkamper, Fritz W. (b. 04 NOV 1858, d. 30 JAN 1940)
Note: Fritz Nollkemper

Struggling for the past month against the rapid approach of death, Fritz Nollkemper, aged 81 years, 2 months and 26 days, died at the family home in La Grange, Tuesday afternoon, January 30. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at 3:00 o'clock, Rev. R. Heise officiating and the Koenig Funeral Home in charge of the funeral. Pall bearers were Harry Vogt, Sequin; Emil Hagens, Gus. Knape, Emil Knape, Robt. Nollkemper, Swiss Alp; John Schroeder, La Grange, Robt. Vogt and John Balzer, Schulenburg. Interment was made in the Cedar cemetery, Wednesday afternoon. "Uncle Fritz" -- in the greeting manner in which the writer ever addressed him - came to La Grange 20 years ago from Swiss Alp, where he had farmed for many years, purchased the Thos. C. Gregory home and lived in that home continuously since. Retiring from his labors on the farm, he spent the past twenty years in contentment, and with his companion of more than 53 years, enjoyed with the pleasant and agreeable years with friends and neighborly relatives. Unpretentious, always of a friendly disposition, his appearance upon our streets will be sadly missed. May he sleep peacefully! Born at Cedar, Nov. 4, 1858, the son of Hy. Nollkemper, Sr., he spent his boyhood days on the farm; in the year 1886, Nov. 10, he was united in marriage with Miss Charlotte Vogt, daughter of John and Mrs. Franciska Vogt, and located on a farm, near Swiss Alp, where they remained until 20 years ago when they removed to La Grange. To this union was born three daughters, all living; these are Mrs. Chas. (Elise) Rosenaur of Sealy, Mrs. Ross (Gretchen) McMillan of Weimar, and Mrs. Earl (Lucy) Greenshield of Swiss Alp. There are four grandchildren, viz: Howard Gray McMillan of Weimar; Earl Jr., and Gene Everett and Lottie Lou Greenshield of Swiss Alp. [The La Grange Journal, Thursday, February 1, 1940]

Nollkamper, Laura Margarethe (b. 24 OCT 1894, d. 23 APR 1962)
Note: Mrs. Ross McMillan of Weimar arrived Tuesday to enjoy a brief visit with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. F. Nollkaemper. [The La Grange Journal, Thursday, November 29, 1923]

Heart Attack Is Fatal To Mrs. McMillan

A heart attack at 1 a.m. Monday, April 23, was fatal to Mrs. Gretchen McMillan, just as it seemed she was about to overcome several months grave illness from complications that followed a diabetic condition. Mrs. McMillan, who was 67, had undergone two amputations in recent months, and after the second one seemed to be on the way to regaining her health. About a week ago she was transferred from Youens Hospital here to the Hallettsville Rest Home, where she had continued to improve. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Hubbard Funeral Home here, with her pastor, Rev. George Fuchs of Weimar United Church of Christ, officiating. Burial was in the Masonic Cemetery. Born Oct. 24, 1894, in the Swiss Alp community of Fayette County, she was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Frit[sic] Nollkamper. She was married to Ross G. McMillan in December, 1917, at her parents home, and they setled[sic] at Weimar, where she had lived ever since. Mr. McMillan died Sept. 1, 1953. They were managing Weimar Courts at the time, and Mrs. McMillan continued as manager until her health no longer permitted it. Surviving her are one son, Howard Gray McMillan of San Antonio; and two grandchildren, twins, Kay and Gay McMillan of San Antonio; and one sister, Mr. Earl Greenschield of La Grange. Pallbearers were Charlie Allen, F. F. Brasher, W. H. Hollien, G. W. Shaver, H. H. Seifert and George Vogt. [Weimar Mercury, Thursday, April 26, 1962]

Mrs. Ross G. (Gretchen) McMillian, sister of Mrs. Earl Greenshield, passed away on Monday, April 23, at the Hallettsville Rest Home, following a heart attack. Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Hubbard Funeral Home at Weimar with Rev. George Fuchs officiating and burial was in the Masonic cemetery. Mrs. McMillian, who was 67, had undergone two amputations in recent months, and after the second seemed to be on the way to regaining her health. She was a native of Swiss Alp where she was born on Oct. 24, 1894, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Fritz Nollkamper. She was married to Mr. McMillian in 1917 and the couple moved to Weimar to make their home. Mr. McMillian died Sept. 1, 1953. Other survivors are a son, Gray McMillian, and twin grandchildren, Kay and Gay McMillian, all of San Antonio. Mr. and Mrs. Greenshield were in Arizona visiting in the home of their son-in-law and daughter, Capt. and Mrs. Paul Sneed and family at the time of her death and returned home after only two days of their planned two-week stay.
