Todd, Anna Marie (b. 28 OCT 1882, d. 20 JAN 1962)
Note: The senior class of 1932 dedicates this issue of The Student to Miss Marie Todd in token of the sincere appreciation and high esteem for her splendid example and invaluable service to the senior class as a group and as individuals. In 1909 Miss Todd came to Warrensburg as an associate professor of English. Since that time she has been constantly engaged in many activities. For twelve years, she was sponsor of the Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority. At the present time, she is a co-sponsor of the junior class, a member of the artist course committee, and in charge of the girls declamations and one-act plays in the spring contests. She is a member of Art, Book, and Crafts club; the American Association of University Women; and is an honorary member of Beta Alpha, the art fraternity. Miss Todd received her teaching certificate from the Washington State Normal, Cheney, Washington. In 1912, she received the Bachelor of Philosophy degree from the University of Chicago. She completed one year of graduate work in 1918, and in 1922 she received her Master of Arts degree from Columbia University, New York. [The Student, Warrensburg, Missouri, Tuesday, May 24, 1932]

Miss Todd Loses Father Suddenly

Miss Marie Todd, teacher in the English department, lost her father, Milton Todd, after a weeks illness of pneumonia. Miss Todd reached her fathers bedside the morning before he died. Mr. Todd, who was ninety years old, was a retired teacher. He taught in the state of Washington for a number of years and before that in Kansas. Miss Todds father has visited here several times and spent one winter with her. His remarkable vitality and his keen intellect were subjects of comments among his friends here. Until his recent illness he kept in touch with the new movements in educational lines, read profound studies in philosophy and the sciences. He was interested in political and other current events. Mr. Todd died in a hospital in San Diego, California. [Warrensburg, Missouri, January 1937]

Miss Todds Brother Dies

Miss Marie Todd left early Friday for Houston, TEX., called because of the death of her brother, Emerson Todd, 2802 Caroline Street, Houston, who had been ill for some time. She expects to return by the middle of next week. Mr. Todd, who had been registrar at a college in Houston for some time, leaves his wife, a daughter, who is a student in the College of Industrial Arts at Denton, Tex., and a brother, Paul, of Davenport, Ia. [Warrensburg, Missouri, June 1941]

TEACHER NOW A PUPIL
Fifty-Four years as Instructor Whets Desire To Learn.
Retired Assistant professor at C. M. S. C., Miss Marie Todd Goes to England to Study at Cambridge.

(By the Stars Own Service.)
Warrensburg, Mo., Sept. 11. Fifty-four years of teaching merely whets ones appetite for learning, according to Miss Marie Todd, assistant professor emeritus of English at Central Missouri State College here, who will leave for a term of study at Cambridge university. Miss Todd, who retired in May, 1953, after forty-five years on the C. M. S. C. staff, said: I hope to enroll in one of the colleges of Cambridge university as a visiting student and plan to spend a part of this academic year there. She discussed the trip as though she were planning on looking into Blank college up the road a piece. Im interested in their presentation of literature. After her retirement last summer, Miss Todd traveled to Europe on a vacation trip.

Eager for Wider Acquaintance.

I enjoyed my short stay in Britain so much last year that I want to go back and get better acquainted with England, she explained. I am really just going to experience English life, and observe the differences in British and American college youth, she added. Miss Todd is descended of British grandparents, who left their native Yorkshire to move to Canada, where her father was born. He later moved to the United States. Although Miss Todd was born in Seneca, Kas., her trip to England, in a sense, will be like going home. Her long teaching career began in a country schoolhouse in 1899 near her home town. She later moved to the West coast and taught in schools in Asotin and Cheney, Wash. In 1908 Miss Todd began as a supervisor at the C. M. S. C. laboratory school, and in 1914, was transferred to the college department as an associate professor a position she held until her retirement last year.

A Teaching Record There.

Old-timers at the college and in Warrensburg believe her forty-five years at C. M. S. C. is the schools longest teaching record. Her formal education includes a bachelor of philosophy degree from the University of Chicago and the degree of Master of Arts from Columbia university , New York, as well as continual private study. Central Missouri State colleges newest girls dormitory, Marie Todd Hall, was named early this year in recognition of her long record of service. Miss Todd will embark on the Queen Elizabeth on Wednesday. Since she is an English teacher, has spent most of her life on a college campus and likes England, it seems quite logical that she should want to live awhile in an English college atmosphere. [The Kansas City Times, Monday, September 13, 1954]

Miss Marie Todd Is Honored On Birthday

A birthday dinner honoring Miss Marie Todd, retired member of the Central Missouri State College faculty, on her seventy-fifth birthday was held last night in Yeater-Todd dining hall at the College. The women of Todd Hall, womens dormitory that was named for Miss Todd, gave her a present. Pat Ellison of Jefferson City, president of Todd Hall, made the presentation. A program was given and was introduced by Donna Marshall of Higginsville. It included numbers by The Collegiates, girls musical group, and the reciting of Poes The Raven by Karen Crosslin of Sedalia. Members of the Collegiates are Shirley Kirkpatrick of Sedalia, Phyllis Lampe of Concordia, Jackie Fuchs of Concordia, Carol Goetz of Mayview and Ann Corn of Independence. On Miss Todds table was a large birthday cake, on which were lighted sparklers. Miss Todd retired from the CMSC faculty in 1953 after being a member of the staff of the English department since 1908. [The Daily Star-Journal, Warrensburg, Missouri, Thursday, October 31, 1957]

The funeral was held at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon at the Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Clyde Miller officiating. She was reared in Seneca then went to Washington state where she attended the state normal at Cheney and later taught in that state. She came to Warrensburg and Central Missouri State College in 1908 to become supervisor of English in the Laboratory School. In 1914, she
transferred to the English Department as associate professor. Miss Todd was retired from active teaching in 1953 and after that spent a summer traveling in Europe and later a year at Cambridge University, England. She was honored by Central Missouri State College which named one of its dormitories for women Todd Hall for her. A member of a number of campus organizations, she was sponsor for many years of Sigma Sigma Sigma social sorority, and was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma, honorary organization. She was called upon to write original verse for special events on campus, some of which entailed many hours of work and study. Marie was a member of the Presbyterian Church and taught Sunday school. She belonged to the Art, Books, and Crafts Club and Chapter CB, PEO. Her activities embraced many areas of interest but her greatest interest was in books. She had many beautiful and rare books in her extensive library. She had traveled widely, not only in Europe but in this country. She was a graduate of Chicago University.

Todd, Kathlyn (b. 16 DEC 1946, d. 09 JUN 1948)
Note: BRENHAM CHILD DIES OF UNUSUAL MALADY

Kathlyn Todd, 18 month old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. E. Todd of Brenham, died in St. Josephs infirmary at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday of an unusual malady acute acidosis and dehydration. The malady acute acidosis means the depletion of the alkaline reserve which is the bicarbonate content of the body. This causes the blood stream to get more acid than is necessary and in turn causes dehydration of the tissue. The acute acidosis also brought about an acute respiratory infection. Survivors besides her parents include two sisters, Terrye Jean and Becky Ann Todd, all of Brenham. The body will be sent to La Grange for funeral services there Friday under the direction of the Koenig Funeral Home. [Brenham Banner-Press, Thursday, June 10, 1948]
