Willmann, Frank J. (b. 21 MAR 1888, d. 06 FEB 1976)
Note: Frank Willmann Visited Here This Week
Frank J. Willmann, for the past four years connected with the State Department of Agriculture, and who has made this section regular visits in the past and assisted materially in helping the farmer to develop his pecan crop, and assisting in giving budding demonstrations, was here this week and advised his friends that he is no longer connected with the Department of Agriculture. Commissioner McDonald did not give him the appointment. We regret believe that it will not keep him away from this section where he has so many friends, and who are anxious for his services in budding pecan trees. In conversation with the writer he stated that he expected to do a great amount of work hereabouts this season. As one who knows how, Frank Willmann can transform your native pecan trees, and make them to bear profit bearing pecans of the most standard variety. Two La Grange natives participated directly and indirectly in a first place winner at the 52nd Annual Texas Pecan Growers Conference held at New Braunfels July 16-18. The grand champion shelling pecans were shown by Frank J. Willmann of La Grange. They were Vogt variety, and required 52 nuts to make a pound. Sixty-three percent of the entrys total weight was kernel. Willmanns original native stock came from a tree growing on the Harry Vogt place. The three day conference, attended by Mr. and Mrs. Frank Willmann, also featured a Queens Pageant and Banquet honoring past presidents of the Texas Pecan Growers Association.
