Marriage of Bollmeyer, Louis (b. 07 MAR 1875, d. 29 JUN 1957) and Schaefer, Marie Elisa (b. 04 AUG 1874, d. 24 SEP 1966)
Note: The Work of Cupid

In the presence of a few invited friends and immediate relatives, at the home of the brides parents, Miss Mary Schaefer, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Schaefer, and Louis Bollmeyer were united in marriage Tuesday night, Squire H. C. Ledbetter, in his usual excellent manner, performing the ceremony. After the bride and groom had received hearty congratulations from all present, the guests were ushered into the dining room, where tables were temptingly set with all kinds of refreshments. The contracting parties have many friends in the city and are well and most favorably known to a large portion of the countys good people. The groom is an honest, deserving and ambitious young man and the bride is very popular with all who know her. The young people have already gone to housekeeping in the Zander homestead. THE JOURNAL trusts that their married life may be one uninterrupted reign of happiness. [La Grange Journal, Thursday, September 5, 1901]

Their Twenty-Fifth Wedding Anniversary

Nothing like friends and relatives who want to be friendly. Last Friday evening, when Louis Bollmeyer, the restaurant man on the north side of the square, in the Kirsch building, and his wife reached home, they found the home had been taken possession of by relatives and friends, quite a large crowd. And the redeeming feature of their apparent nerve at taking possession of a family home during the absence of the family, came when the guests announced that they had brought an abundance of refreshments and cakes, and that the evening should be a merry one, to celebrate the twenty-fifth anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Bollmeyers wedding day. Louis says he was tired when he reached home but that he forgot it all and everybody had a big time. Which goes without saying when visitors come well-laden and bring the smiles as well. We congratulate the newly wedded and wish for them twenty-five years more of happy married life. [The La Grange Journal, Thursday, September 9, 1926]

Note: Stiehl Loessin

Miss Katie Stiehl and Will Loessin were happily married at the residence of the brides foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. August Loessin in this city, on Thursday evening, February 14th, at 8 oclock. In performing the sacred ceremony Judge Ledbetter seemed at ease and fully aware of the solemnity, uniting the young couple for all time to come. The ceremony over, congratulations were in order and very numerous, after which the wedding supper a royal feast good enough for the gods and spread in all its daintiness was enjoyed by the guests. The lawn had been expressly prepared for the occasion, a canvass enclosure having been erected, with tables and seats within, and covers laid for eighty. These tables were laden with the very best of everything even to choicest wines, and its seating capacity tested more than three times, so that the feasting number must have been at least 250. Will Loessins Observe Golden Wedding On Sunday

Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Loessin, who were married fifty years ago on February 14, observed their golden wedding anniversary on Sunday, Feb. 18, with open house at their home at 210 South Main Street in La Grange. More than 400 guests called between the hours of 3:30 to 5:30 and from 7:30 to 9:30 PM. Greeting the guests at the door as they arrived was Frank Giesber, a grandson. In the receiving line were Mr. and Mrs. Loessin; their children, including Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Loessin, Mr. and Mrs. George Giesber, Mr. and Mrs. Roy Loessin; and another grandson, Wilburn Loessin. A granddaughter, Shirley Giesber, had charge of the guest book. Mrs. Loessin wore a lavender crepe dress with an orchid corsage and each member of the house party wore a glamellia corsage. The dining table, covered with a gold diamond cloth, held the large double wedding ring cake, ornamented with yellow roses and bells and placed on a mirror reflector edged with net, and a silver coffee and tea service. Centering the table was a large arrangement of white carnations and gold spirals in a gold container. The crystal candelabra held ivory tapers. Alternating at the coffee and tea service were Mrs. Charles Vogt of Schulenburg, Mrs. Sam Sengelmann and Mrs. Elsie Knigge of Houston, and Mrs. R. F. Harris, Mrs. Verna Reichert, Mrs. B. D. Oder and Miss Jeanette Alexander of La Grange. Tiny sandwiches, cookies and bell-shaped mints were served. Imprinted on the napkins in gold were the words "Katie and Will, 1901-1951." The buffet held a large arrangement of gold chrysanthemums, and other baskets of gold and white chrysanthemums, gladioli, carnations and calla lillies were placed at points in the dining room and hall. Floral decorations in the living room consisted of red gladioli and carnations and an arrangement of red gladioli placed on the mantel. A turkey dinner for the family and members of the house party was served at 6 o'clock. During the dinner Miss Gertie Alexander read the following toast to the couple:

"Today is your anniversary, dear friends of mine;
You are 50 years married, and still looking fine.
Your hair is all silver, your voice is pure gold.
What matters if some think you are old?
Your friends have all gathered to help celebrate this happy occasion,
So let us be happy and gay.
Your family around you are well and strong
And that makes life a sweet song,
For life is swell when we keep well.
Our families before us were always neighbors and friends
Ever ready and willing a helping hand to lend.
True, you have had sorrow in the past,
But who has not? No one is exempt.
Into all lives some rain must fall,
Some days be dark and dreary,
But be of good cheer, there is a silver lining to every cloud
And the bright rays are now shining thru the dark clouds on you and yours.
I want to wish you long life, health and happiness
And hope you celebrate many more anniversaries in the same happy way
And now let us drink to the health of dear Mrs. Katie and Mr. Will and their charming family."

Mr. and Mrs. Loessin were married Feb. 14, 1904 (1901?), at the home of Mr. and Mrs. August Loessin, foster parents of Mrs. Loessin, the former Miss Katie Stiehl, and brother and sister-in-law of Mr. Loessin. They spent their entire married life in La Grange and have three children, a daughter Mrs. George Giesber, and two sons, W. B. Loessin and Roy Loessin, all of whom are living in La Grange. Their three grandchildren are Shirley and Frank Giesber, daughter and son of Mr. and Mrs. George Giesber, and Wilburn Loessin, son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Loessin. Among the guests present were the two who served as maid of honor and best man at the wedding of the celebrants. They were Mrs. L. T. Erickson, a cousin of Mrs. Loessin who now lives in Rogers, Ark., and Hubert Stierling of Edna. Other guests included friends from Galveston, Houston, Austin, San Antonio, San Marcos, El Campo, Wharton, Seguin, Ganado, Smithville, Bastrop, Schulenburg, Weimar, Edna, Bellville, Sealy, Fredericksburg, and Rogers, Arkansas. Mr. Loessin, better known as Mr. Will, served as a peace officer in Fayette County for more than 50 years. He terminated his career as an officer of the law four years ago when he retired from the office of sheriff of Fayette County. [The La Grange Journal, Thursday, February 22, 1951]
